heee... another bad guy. give him two options: 1. some cash you are satisified with; 2. report to insurance company. next time, ask another party to write a satement/confirmation note at spot.

I was hit by a guy several years ago in a snow day and the rear bump was scratched slightly. I suggested that he pay for the repair and I don't report to the insurance for his goodness and he agreed. Then I went to three bodyshops and asked for quotations. I told him the results and he agreed to pay the invoice at the lowest one. The day I sent my car into the bodyshop, I called him and inform the work number with my name, car VIN and estimate cost. He went to the bodyshop and paid the cost during the day. I picked up my repaired car after my work hour, even we did not see each other that day.
In your case, the guy has agreed to pay for the repair cost. you can go to a few bodyshops and ask for quotations and inform him. if he agrees, you send the car to the bodyshop at the lowest quotation cost and let him to pay the bodyshop directly or pay you. It should be ok because you already have his insurance # etc. the possibility for him to deny is not high. If he does, you can sue him in the small amount court and you should win most likely. By the way, the cost should be 200 to 300 for rear bump repainting, but you may see quotations as high as 500 to 600.

The best approach is to get few estimates as noted above.
Then give the estimates to that person who hit your bumper and ask him which place he prefers and then get a cheque from him or arrange for him to pay. Otherwise, he may not pay you later.
Everything should be in writing, e.g., asking him to sign a statement that he hit you and will to pay for the costs. It will help if you have the signed statement, when you go to your insurance company (if he does not pay the costs).
对方给你留下了详细个人信息和保险号，因此，其人不认账的可能不大。最初由 dandan 发布
Sorry for the confusion. The payment was the same as the quotation (less than 5% difference is allowed by the Consumer Act). I asked three bodyshops and the quotations were 570, 420 and 230 respectively. What I wanted to advise is that you have to shop around to get a real cost quotation for the repair, not be fooled by some bad bodyshops that try to blackmail you. Showing several quotations to the person who hit you is also a way to show your sincerity (tried your best to save money for him). And you can ask him if he knows any cheaper bodyshop. If he can't, why don't he accept your lowest one but look for the trouble of insurance claim or being sued in court for just a couple of hundreds dollars. Good luck.最初由 dandan 发布
